Join us for the upcoming online event, “Climate Adaptation Tools and Services for Cities & Local Authorities” on Tuesday, 26 November 2024. The webinar aims to bring together city and regional representatives, tools providers, climate adaptation experts, and research partners to explore practical tools for climate adaptation and foster collaboration across Europe. Organized as part of the REACHOUT Learning Program, this event primarily targets EU municipalities and local authorities focused on building climate resilience and accelerating adaptation efforts.
Overview
The impacts of climate change are becoming more severe across Europe, affecting cities, communities, physical infrastructure and economic sectors in diverse ways. Cities and local authorities are under increasing pressure to enhance their preparedness and adapt to these challenges and their expected effects. The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change is supporting these efforts, helping cities and regions build climate resilience, and contributing to the goals of the European Green Deal. The REACHOUT project is providing a set of comprehensive, user-oriented tools through its Triple-A Toolkit, empowering urban planners and climate adaptation professionals to assess climate risk and opportunities, prioritize actions and implement effective adaptation strategies for cities. The toolkit offers stand-alone tools, guidance and tailored climate services to engage policymakers in every stage of the adaptation process, accelerating efforts to build climate resilience.
Format
The event will facilitate dialogue among city representatives, tools providers, climate adaptation experts, and research partners to foster the widespread adoption of climate services across Europe. With a strong practical focus, the event is designed to help cities and local authorities advance their adaptation processes and address their unique needs and priorities.
The event will open with introductory presentations covering the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, opportunities for climate services and other EU initiatives. Afterwards, REACHOUT Triple-A approach will be presented, accompanied by demonstrators of various tools and solutions addressing climate hazards. These tools will include the CRCTool, FloodAdapt, the Thermal Assessment Tool and Climate Stories among others.
In the second part, participants will join thematic breakout sessions focused on key topics such as extreme heat, flooding, and the implementation of nature-based solutions. These sessions will facilitate discussions on developing effective and integrated adaptation strategies.
The event will conclude with a plenary session to reflect on key takeaways and explore pathways for the further adoption of climate adaptation tools and services.
