Smartphone GIS: Exploring technological competency in active learning across geography

Smartphones are increasingly becoming embedded in higher education curriculums, meaning research is needed to gather insights from the student perspective to guide best practice for optimised implementation across diverse cohorts. This work utilised exercises in Survey123, Field Maps, and QField for QGIS across undergraduate and postgraduate geography programmes to highlight the role that student competency in technology and sub-discipline plays in student engagement with smartphone technology to support active learning.

Development of a Social Vulnerability Index: Enhancing approaches to support climate justice

Vulnerability analysis that broadens the focus beyond exposure to hazards is invaluable in supporting just climate action. This study outlines the modifications made to the social vulnerability to environmental hazards index developed by Fitton et al. (2021). It builds upon previous work, using a number of case studies in Ireland, Italy and Spain, to make the index hazard specific and applicable to a variety of users.
